This policy explains what information SSA Office Finder collects when you use the site, why, and the choices you have. We keep collection to the minimum needed to run and improve the directory.

What we do not collect

There are no accounts or sign-ups on this site. We do not ask for your Social Security number, date of birth, financial information, or any SSA login, and you should never type them into any page here.

Searches and location

  • When you search by ZIP code, city, or state, the text you type is sent to our server so we can return matching offices. We do not attach it to your name or keep a searchable history of it.
  • If you tap "Use My Current Location" on the Near Me page, your browser asks for permission first. If you agree, your device sends its coordinates to our server for that one search so we can sort offices by distance. We do not save those coordinates.

Contact form

If you write to us through the contact form, we receive the name, email address, subject, and message you enter, along with your IP address and browser type. We use them to read and answer your message and to block spam and abuse. We do not sell them or use them for marketing, and we do not share them except where the law requires. We keep messages for as long as we need them to respond or to keep a record of a correction, then delete them.

Server logs and cookies

Like most websites, our server records basic technical details with each request: your IP address, browser type, the page requested, and the time. We use these logs to keep the site running, fix errors, and block abuse.

The site sets a small number of cookies that it needs to work, such as a session cookie and a security token that protects against forged requests. They do not track you across other websites.

Google Analytics

We use Google Analytics to see, in aggregate, how people use the site: which pages are read, which searches lead to results, what devices and browsers visit, and roughly what region visitors are in. Google Analytics uses cookies or similar identifiers to do this. Google provides us with reports, not your identity, and we do not try to identify individual visitors.

Google processes this data under its own privacy policy. You can stop Google Analytics from collecting data about your visits by installing Google's browser opt-out add-on, or by blocking cookies in your browser settings.

Advertising

We do not display advertisements at this time. We may apply to show ads through Google AdSense or other advertising networks in the future.

When advertising is enabled:

  • Third-party vendors, including Google, use cookies to serve ads based on a user's prior visits to this website or other websites.
  • Google's use of advertising cookies enables it and its partners to serve ads based on your visit to this site and/or other sites on the Internet.
  • You can opt out of personalized advertising by visiting Google Ads Settings or aboutads.info.

Links to other sites

Our pages link to ssa.gov and other sites. The "Get Directions" buttons open Google Maps in a new tab. Once you leave our site, that site's own privacy policy applies, and we have no control over what it collects. Fonts, icons, and scripts used by our pages are served from our own domain instead of a third-party host.

Children

This site is meant for a general adult audience and is not directed at children under 13. We do not knowingly collect information from children.

Your choices and rights

Depending on where you live, laws such as the California Consumer Privacy Act or the EU and UK GDPR may give you the right to ask what information a website holds about you, to have it deleted, or to opt out of certain uses. We do not sell personal information. Because we do not keep accounts or personal profiles, there is usually very little to look up, but you are welcome to ask.

Changes to this policy

If we change how we handle data, for example when advertising is added, we will update this page and the date at the top. Please check back occasionally.
