State Supplementary Payment (SSP) Rules
Washington provides a State Supplementary Payment (SSP) on top of federal SSI. The supplement is administered separately by the state, not the SSA — contact Washington's human services agency for payment details.
Medicaid & Health Coverage Integration
Washington automatically enrolls SSI recipients in Medicaid (Apple Health) — approval for SSI means approval for Medicaid too, with no separate application needed.
Office Walk-Ins & Hearing Offices (OHO)
Since January 2025, Washington field offices require an appointment for in-person service, including Social Security card requests — book online or call ahead before visiting. Walk-ins are still served for urgent situations (vulnerable individuals, military personnel, people with terminal illnesses) and at offices with minimal wait times. For disability appeals, Washington's Office of Hearings Operations (OHO) has hearing offices in Seattle, Spokane, and Tacoma.
